Old School Melodic Death Metal Highlight !
Seit 25 Jahren ziehen BATTLESWORD nun schon ihre Kreise durch schwermetallische Gefilde und legen zu diesem Anlass ihren fünften Longplayer vor, welcher in seinem Titel "(XX)V" sowohl auf das Jubiläum, als auch die Albumnummer anspielt. Auch den Zusatz „Of Tales And Tragedies“ kann man getrost als Anlehnung an die Historie der Band und der Dinge die man in so einer Zeitspanne durchlebt deuten.
Musikalisch machen Battlesword unbeirrt dort weiter wo sie zum Glück nie aufgehört haben: Es gibt den typischen Battlesword Sound, der immer mal wieder durch neue Elemente erweitert wurde. Von fast doomigen Parts bis hin zu gnadenlosen Blasts wird die stilistische Abwechslung einerseits nicht überstrapaziert, ist aber dennoch vielschichtig genug um bei den 11 Songs über die komplette Laufzeit nie Langeweile aufkommen zu lassen. Wie schon beim Vorgänger wurde „(XX)V“ im Big Easy Studio in Hennef von Michael "Freio" Haas aufgenommen und gemixt, während man das Mastering erneut in die Hände von Dan Swanö gelegt hat.
Ein Novum in der Battlesword Historie ist übrigens, dass es bei „(XX)V - Of Tales And Tragedies“ keine Änderungen im Line-Up gegeben hat und man sich beim Song "Brethren Of The Sword" quasi eine Hommage an sich selbst erlaubt und gegönnt hat. Darüberhinaus gibt es natürlich nach wie vor genau das, was man von einem zünftigen Melodic Death Metal,- und einem Battlesword Album im speziellen - erwartet.

New edition of the completely sold-out 2018 album by Lower Saxony melodic death/thrashers Final Cry. With "Zombique", the band made an impressive comeback after 11 years of radio silence and released the rawest and heaviest album in their history to date. Guitarist Eiko, who took over the vocals in the meantime, characterizes this album with deep growls (rather unusual for Final Cry up to this point) and contributes a lot to the fact that the content concept, which revolves around voodoo cults and zombie stories among the Caribbean slaves with partly historically documented protagonists and their influence up to the Haitian revolution, also unfolds musically in full brutality.

Auf 11 Songs wälzt sich das Quartett durch schleppende, ergreifende Melodien, umschlungen von den markanten Vocals von Jason McMaster (Watchtower, Dangerous Toys), welche dem Gesamtsound eine authentische Tiefe verleihen und getrieben von den erbarmungslosen Grooves eines Ron Lipnicki (ex-Overkill, Whiplash). A revelation between rawness and atmosphere !
With "Blessed By The Light Of A Thousand Stars", the German black metallers Servant present an impressive and incredibly mature debut album, which stylistically undoubtedly stands on the shoulders of the great Scandinavian black metal bands. On closer inspection, this is hardly surprising, as the band is basically based on the remains, btw with main songwriter Farago a protagonist of Ancient Wargod, who were already active in the 90s. For whose reunion, never came to pass, the first rough song ideas were intended.
In the course of the last 5 years, these ideas matured, also thanks to new comrades-in-arms, into the present album, which has a sound outfit in which the compositions unfold their full effect. The band uses the full range of stylistic means available in the genre and does also not renounce bombastic passages with choirs, keyboards and orchestral support, as well as parts that are deliberately kept raw and "monotonous".
Contentwise the 9 tracks are not only inspired by modern Satanism, but also by the human emotional world and the longings associated with it. The longing for death, the desire for transience, elevation of the self, as well as the search for the meaning of life with the help of various religious and occult teachings are just a few examples to describe the approach of the lyrical part.
The opulent work was recorded and produced by mastermind Farago himself, while the sound was given the finishing touches by Guano Apes drummer Dennis Poschatta during mastering at the Katzbach Studio in Göttingen.

The Portuguese Caedeous present with "Malum Supplicium" their third longplayer. It is, as with the two predecessors, a concept album, which thematically tells horror stories inspired by Lovecraft, Barker and Alighierie's works. The oppulent compositions of mastermind Paulo J. Mendes provide the necessary musical space for the concept and mercilessly unfold their effect in a wall of merciless black metal blast beats and a symphonic sound wall. In the meantime, Mendes has managed to gather a handsome line-up around him. Not only Annihilator bassist Rich Grey is a session musician on this project, but also mezzo-soprano Rosmerta, who makes her Caedeous debut on this album, is part of the band's lineup.

The return of „Ancient History“
A stone chamber. Smell of mould, sand and age. Darkness, torches, fading artwork on the walls. Steps lead deeper into the stone. 3000km away from the Valley of the Kings, in 2015 a band have set themselves the tasks to merge the atmosphere of ancient Egypt musically into a classic Black Metal fundament. Under the banner of the lion-headed god MAAHES (the lord of darkness, winds and slaughter) they stepped out of the catacombs and with a unique stage show they have already been guests at festivals like the Wolfszeit or the Ragnarök Festival.
Conceptually as well as musically, the quintet shows that they know how to shoulder the burden of extreme metal history. Just as the protagonist of their concept album "Reincarnation" escapes from the captivity of the ancient Egyptian underworld and resurrects successfully at the end, Maahes stylistically fight their way through a quarter of a century of extreme music history. If you think about legendary albums like "Storm of the Light's Bane", "Deathcult Armageddon", "At the Heart of Winter" or "God hates us all", you are probably not too wrong. But the band also allows itself cross-references in Death Metal or Heavy Metal in order to realize its compositional ideas without disturbing barriers.
Anno 2020 it is now time to unleash this result of their work so far on mankind. "Reincarnation" was already produced in 2018 and was recorded in various studios, including Studio Wustrack (a.o. Vroudenspil). Drumrecordings, mix and mastering took place under the direction of Florian Dammasch at "Nightside Audio" in Solingen (a.o. Eïs, Ash Of Ashes). The debut is completed by the artwork of Brazilian artist Caio Caldas/Cadiesart (Dragonforce, Doro, a.o.).

Isiulusions is an Austrian quartet, which was founded by the Hellsaw guitarist Isiul (who is also partly the namesake of the band). Together with other members of Hellsaw, Groteskh, Nocturne and Irdorath, among others, long-proven representatives of the scene are convened under this new banner, which is why one cannot really speak of "newcomers", even if Isiulusions are still a completely blank sheet.
Musically the guys take the chance to implement some ideas collected over the years, which led to the present debut "I-Follow The Flow". Stylistically, the album offers a wide spectrum which may have its origins in Black Metal, but also gives room to classic Heavy Metal parts and atmospheric sounds. This is also reflected in the vocals, which cover an equally diverse range.
"I-Follow The Flow" was produced in the "Sound Delusion Studio" in Carinthia under the direction of Christoph Klier and is described by guitarist Isiul himself as follows: "You can't deny that we come from Black Metal - we don't want to - but we like to think outside the box."
