Stormhunter have been making their mark on the German metal scene since 1998 and, after two EPs (Ready For Boarding, 2020, Strangle With Care, 2022), are now releasing their long-awaited fourth longplayer, "Best Before: Death", in 2024. The band continues their tradition of classic "German Heavy Metal", still dispensing with keyboards in their arrangements and instead increasing the proportion of choirs, which give the songs even more of an anthemic character.
The new album was recorded and produced at Iguana Studios under the direction of Christoph Brandes, while Timon Kokott has provided the whole thing with artwork that illustrates the loose concept of the content, which revolves around death. "Best Before: Death" is described by the band as their "most personal album" to date, as it incorporates various experiences from the band's environment and looks at death from different angles, from loss to redemption.
In the 11 songs, the band refrains from musical experiments, but still offers one or two surprising approaches while rocking their way through exactly 48 minutes with sophisticated guitar work and a variety of melodies.

Old School Melodic Death Metal Highlight !
Seit 25 Jahren ziehen BATTLESWORD nun schon ihre Kreise durch schwermetallische Gefilde und legen zu diesem Anlass ihren fünften Longplayer vor, welcher in seinem Titel "(XX)V" sowohl auf das Jubiläum, als auch die Albumnummer anspielt. Auch den Zusatz „Of Tales And Tragedies“ kann man getrost als Anlehnung an die Historie der Band und der Dinge die man in so einer Zeitspanne durchlebt deuten.
Musikalisch machen Battlesword unbeirrt dort weiter wo sie zum Glück nie aufgehört haben: Es gibt den typischen Battlesword Sound, der immer mal wieder durch neue Elemente erweitert wurde. Von fast doomigen Parts bis hin zu gnadenlosen Blasts wird die stilistische Abwechslung einerseits nicht überstrapaziert, ist aber dennoch vielschichtig genug um bei den 11 Songs über die komplette Laufzeit nie Langeweile aufkommen zu lassen. Wie schon beim Vorgänger wurde „(XX)V“ im Big Easy Studio in Hennef von Michael "Freio" Haas aufgenommen und gemixt, während man das Mastering erneut in die Hände von Dan Swanö gelegt hat.
Ein Novum in der Battlesword Historie ist übrigens, dass es bei „(XX)V - Of Tales And Tragedies“ keine Änderungen im Line-Up gegeben hat und man sich beim Song "Brethren Of The Sword" quasi eine Hommage an sich selbst erlaubt und gegönnt hat. Darüberhinaus gibt es natürlich nach wie vor genau das, was man von einem zünftigen Melodic Death Metal,- und einem Battlesword Album im speziellen - erwartet.

The germans from Grand Massive have been on the road since 2009 and have been able to gain a steadily growing following with 4 albums and several singles and EPs, as well as retaining it with massive live performances. With "Houses Of The Unholy", the bavarians are now releasing 5 songs that, with a playing time of just under 28 minutes, are not far removed from the longplayers of many other colleagues, but are not a "normal" release for the band itself.

Abyss of Hel was originally founded as a one-man-project by ex-Thrudvangar guitarist Daniel Stromayer. In the course of time, however, the idea quickly matured to give the whole thing more space and the current quintet gained shape and profile. The musical roots are more in American Death Metal, but also Progressive, Punk and Electro influences are found in the arrangements and unite to a modern, melodic and at the same time dark wall of sound.
The present debut album "Into The Abyss" depicts in terms of content the course of the mental breakdown of a man, his descent into the abyss and its realization of an irrevocable reality. Headshot have been a bank for years when it comes to hefty, aggressive, SF Bay Area-inspired thrash metal from Germany, and last year they made an impressive comeback with their sixth longplayer "Eyes Of The Guardian"! The first two albums are now completely out of print, but a simple re-release was too mundane for the band to the anniversary, especially since the production of that time is probably no longer up to date. Therefore the quintet decided to completely re-record some of their classics from the early days.
Like the last album, the old/new songs were produced at PureSonic Studio Langelsheim by Jost Schlüter, who not only breathed new life into the old songs, but also gave them a contemporary, anniversary-worthy sound garment. "...Makes Us Survive" is a great Thrash Metal album - and not only for fans and collectors.
