With "Towards The Unknown", the German melodic death metal institution Battlesword returns with new material in the twenty-third year of its existence and proves that they are far from being old hat and certainly not willing to think about retirement. On the contrary - on the new material the concentrated load of experience breaks through in the form of an energetic steamroller that threatens to bury everything in its path.
With their distinctive mix of melodic death and Scandinavian old school, the band manages to write songs that have classic potential from the very first riff, seemingly effortlessly even in 2022.
"Towards The Unknown" was recorded and produced by Michael "Freio" Haas in April/May at Big Easy Studio in Hennef. For the mastering, the band turned to a master of the genre this time and so none other than Dan Swanö refined the album. In addition to new material, "Towards The Unknown" contains the songs from the "The 13th Black Crusade" maxi, which has been out of print for many years, as a bonus which als also been remastered for this purpose!

Auf den vorliegenden 11 Songs mit einer Spiellänge von über 60 Minuten bietet die Band anspruchsvollen Black und Death Metal vom Feinsten, bei denen Freunde extremer Klänge vollends auf ihre Kosten kommen.
Mit „Pyrogenesis“ schaffen Asphagor erneut ein Gesamtwerk, welches in der Lage ist eine atmosphärische Dichte zu erzeugen, die einen über die gesamte Spielzeit in seinen Bann zieht und den Hörer schier atemlos und beeindruckt zurücklässt. Bosparans Fall sind zwar schon einige Jahre unter anderem Namen und anderen Konstellationen in der Metalszene unterwegs, haben sich jedoch erst 2022 als RPG Metalprojekt neu formatiert. Konzeptionell bewegt sich die Band in Aventurien, einer Fantasy-Welt aus dem deutschsprachigen Pen&Paper Rollenspiel “Das Schwarze Auge”.
Musikalisch hat sich Quintett, welches das Rollenspiel Thema auch aufwändig in ihren Liveshows umsetzen wird, dem melodischen Death Metal verschrieben, wobei auch verschiedene andere und angrenzende extreme Metal Genres ihre Einflüsse finden. Mit ihrem vorliegenden Full Lenght Debut schreiben Bosparans Fall den ersten Teil einer als Trilogie angelegten Geschichte um den Recken Alrik Immerda, welcher 1019 Jahre nach dem Kampf auf Bosparans Zinnen in die seit knapp zwei Dekaden dauernden Vorbereitungen der alten Rituale hineingezogen wird
„Götterspiel: Dunkle Zeiten“ bricht wie ein Sturm über einen herein und zieht einen durch seine ausgeklügelten Erzählstränge und Arrangements in seinen Bann. Teile der Story, wie z.B. die Figur des Protagonisten wurden übrigens in enger Abstimmung mit der DSA Community auf diversen Boards entworfen. Mit „Wrath Of The Witch“ legt die Marburger Death Metal Schmiede Corrosive ihr siebentes und zugleich ungewöhnlichstes Album vor. Anstatt sich Jahr für Jahr einfach nur erstklassige Death Metal Riffs aus den Rippen zu schälen, überrascht das Quintett anno 2023 mit einem Konzeptalbum, dessen Grundstein bereits auf ihrem 2019er Album „Nourished by Blood“ mit dem Track „Notzucht der Hexe“ gelegt wurde.
Herausgekommen ist eine Geschichte, die von verschiedenen Charakteren vorangetrieben wird, bevor sie in einem blutigen Showdown mündet. Um das Gesamtkonzept wirkungsvoll umzusetzen hat die Band sich entschieden die unterschiedlichen Rollen, einem Theaterstück gleich, mit unterschiedlichen Sängern zu besetzen. So geben sich in den Hauptrollen, neben Sänger Andy versteht sich, u.a. Gerre (Tankard), Sabina Classen (Holy Moses), Dirk Weiss (Warpath), Eva Schmidt (Nihil), Andreas Jäger (Hyems) und Kai Wilhelm (Final Cry) das Mikro in die Hand. Dabei gelingt es den Gästen eindrucksvoll den nach wie vor reichlich vorhandenen und typischen Corrosive Trademarks auch ihren eigenen Stempel aufzudrücken, was dem Album eine Vielschichtigkeit verleiht, Leben und Individualität verleiht und den Hörer mit auf eine Reise in eine dunkle Zeit nimmt.
Musikalisch hat die Band dem düsteren Konzept Rechnung getragen und lässt es grundsätzlich auch mal etwas melodischer und sogar Black Metal lastiger als auf den Vorgänger Alben angehen und dennoch ein Album abgeliefert, welches unverkennbar ein Corrosive Album ist.

Rude Thrash Metal Neckbreaker!
Die bereits 1993 gegründeten (seit 2008 mit Daniela Karrer female fronted) Braunschweiger Headshot sind seit Jahren eine Bank wenn es um deftigen, aggressiven, SF Bay Area inspirierten, Thrash Metal aus deutschen Landen geht. Auch wenn das letzte Studioalbum schon einige Jahre zurück liegt, war das Quintett nie von der Bildfläche verschwunden, sondern berackerte unermüdlich deutsche und internationale Bühnen.
Anno 2022 meldet sich die Band mit „Eyes of the Guardians“ endlich auch an der Tonträgerfront zurück und stellt unter Beweis, dass man noch lange nicht zum alten Eisen gehört und in Sachen Brutalität und Härte nichts verlernt hat. Im Gegenteil: Die vorliegenden 10 Songs sind geradezu eine Lehrstunde in Sachen nackenbrecherischen Thrash, wobei es der Band gelingt, ohne mit ihrem Stil zu brechen, darauf durchaus auch neue Töne anzuschlagen und das Album so zum zweifellosen Höhepunkt ihres bisherigen Schaffens zu machen. Gerade Frontfrau Daniela Karrer überrascht, neben ihren brutalen Shouts und vereinzelten Grunts, mit ungewohnten melodische Passagen. Und so mancher Schrei aus ihrem Munde dürfte Rob Halford wehmütig an alte Zeiten denken lassen.Aufgenommen und produziert haben die Niedersachsen die Scheibe zwischen Juli 2019 und Februar 2022 im PureSonic Studio, Langelsheim unter den Fittichen von Jost Schlüter (u.a. Final Cry, Deny The Urge, Iron Fate). Be aware - this is a monster!

Mastic Scum are undoubtedly one of Austria's best-known metal exports. Since the early 90s, the band has been ravaging the international metal scene, delivering brute and technically high-quality death anthems that couldn't sound more crushing. Wenn gestandenen Musiker während des Lockdowns die Decke auf den Kopf fällt, kommen sie auf die kuriosesten Sachen und manchmal auch auf grandiose Ideen. A revelation between rawness and atmosphere !
With "Blessed By The Light Of A Thousand Stars", the German black metallers Servant present an impressive and incredibly mature debut album, which stylistically undoubtedly stands on the shoulders of the great Scandinavian black metal bands. On closer inspection, this is hardly surprising, as the band is basically based on the remains, btw with main songwriter Farago a protagonist of Ancient Wargod, who were already active in the 90s. For whose reunion, never came to pass, the first rough song ideas were intended.
In the course of the last 5 years, these ideas matured, also thanks to new comrades-in-arms, into the present album, which has a sound outfit in which the compositions unfold their full effect. The band uses the full range of stylistic means available in the genre and does also not renounce bombastic passages with choirs, keyboards and orchestral support, as well as parts that are deliberately kept raw and "monotonous".
Contentwise the 9 tracks are not only inspired by modern Satanism, but also by the human emotional world and the longings associated with it. The longing for death, the desire for transience, elevation of the self, as well as the search for the meaning of life with the help of various religious and occult teachings are just a few examples to describe the approach of the lyrical part.
The opulent work was recorded and produced by mastermind Farago himself, while the sound was given the finishing touches by Guano Apes drummer Dennis Poschatta during mastering at the Katzbach Studio in Göttingen.

Die Bremer Deather sind mittlerweile kein Geheimtipp mehr, dafür ist die Schneise der Verwüstung die sie mit ihren bisher 3 Veröffentlichungen und ihren Liveshows hinterlassen zu offensichtlich. Anno 2022 liegt nun, nach der letztjährigen 5-Track EP „Lifeless Obsession“ mit „Anthems From The Abyss“ der zweite Longplayer des Trios vor, auf welchem sie ihren Weg konsequent fortsetzen und dabei ein ums andere mal Maßstäbe in Sachen Brutalität setzen.
Feinster Death Metal, von Blast Speed Attacken, über groovige Dampfwalzen bis hin zu mystischen Hymnen. Auch auf ihrem neuen Output bietet die Band eine enorme Bandbreite ohne dabei vom Kern des brutalen Death Metals abzukommen.
Für die Produktion zeigt sich die Band erneut in Form von Maté "Balrogh" Balogh - Balrogh Recordings und Jan Resmer - Silenced Soul Records selbst verantwortlich und sorgt damit erneut für eine alles niederwalzende Soundwand, die ihrem Stil mehr als gerecht wird. Das Artwork von Misanthropic Art rundet diesen Longplayer, auf dem auch sonst keine Wünsche von Genrefreunden unerfüllt bleiben, angemessen ab.

Dark melodic death metal !
Vermocracy from Vienna, founded in 2017, already caused quite a stir in the underground with their self-titled debut, released in 2020. The band has undoubtedly dedicated itself to dark melodic death metal, as a nod to the genre greats of the 90s. Stylistically and in terms of content, the band draws a dystopian picture of the failure and decay of modern society with powerful riffs, earthy grooves and bestial vocals.
With "Age Of Dysphoria", the band consistently continues the path they have taken since their foundation and delivers an album that sets new standards in the band's history, both technically and compositionally. Aggressiveness paired with the necessary groove, playful melodies combined with powerful harshness and all that, despite a clear homage to the melodic death metal of the nineties, with a contemporary freshness and great joy of playing characterises the album, which lyrically deals with the desolation and hopelessness of today.
Age Of Dysphoria" was recorded, produced and mastered in Norbert Leitner's studio in Vienna, which gives the band a more than powerful sound, which is further enhanced by the artwork by Armin Stocker, who also gives the whole thing a fitting visual framework. Vermocracy will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come!
