Mit „Towards The Unknown“ meldet sich im dreiundzwanzigsten Jahr ihres Bestehens die deutsche Melodic Death Metal Institution Battlesword mit neuem Material zurück und beweist, dass sie noch längst nicht zum alten Eisen gehören und schon gar nicht gewillt ist an den Ruhestand zu denken. Im Gegenteil - auf dem neuen Material bricht sich die geballte Ladung an Erfahrung in Form einer energiegeladenen Dampfwalze Bahn, die alles unter sich zu begraben droht was sich in ihren Weg stellt.
Mit ihrem markanten Mix aus Melodic Death und skandinavischem Old School schafft es die Band auch anno 2022 scheinbar mühelos Songs zu schreiben, die vom ersten Riff an Klassikerpotential haben.
„Towards The Unknown“ wurde im April/Mai im Big Easy Studio in Hennef von Michael “Freio” Haas aufgenommen und produziert. Für das Mastering hat sich die Band diesmal an einen Meister des Genres gewandt und so hat niemand geringeres als Dan Swanö das Album veredelt. Zusätzlich zu neuem Material enthält „Towards The Unknown“ als Bonus die Songs der bereits seit vielen Jahren restlos vergriffenen „The 13th Black Crusade“ Maxi, die zu diesem Zweck auch nochmal einem ReMastering unterzogen wurden!

Das Gesamtkonzept wird durch ein 20seitigen Storybooklet abgerundet, welches die realen Geschichten erzählt, die jedem einzelnen Song zu Grunde liegen. Für einige Backing Vocals und Chöre, welche die epische Tiefe des Albumthemas unterstützen, konnte man zudem Herbie Langhans (AVANTASIA) und Børd Wäsche (EYE SEE BLACK) gewinnen. “The Ever-Rest” wurde im Soundlodge Studio unter den Fittichen von Jörg Uken aufgenommen und ist zweifellos ein Highlight im Schaffen des Quintetts und dürfte sowohl alte als auch neue Fans der Niedersachsen begeistern. Für ihre langjährigen Anhänger hat die Band als Bonus mit “Words Unspoken” zudem einen ihrer Alltime Klassiker aus dem Jahre 1994 nochmal neu aufgenommen und ins neue Jahrtausend portiert.

Already since 1999 Battlesword have been holding up the banner of Melodic Death Metal and with their powerful and likeable live performance have gained a steadily growing following on international stages. In the year 2019, the band's 20th anniversary, it's time to release their fifth output after a maxi, an EP and two albums.
On "And Death Cometh Upon Us" the quintet proves that, despite various line-up problems in the past, they still alive on the one hand and on the other hand they still not a part of the old guard. With their concentrated load of energy, experience and their meanwhile distinctive style between Melodic Death and Scandinavian Old School, Battlesword manage to leave a trail of destruction behind with their current longplayer and leave the listener with extensive neck pain.
"And Death Cometh Upon Us" was recorded, mixed and mastered in April 2019 at Beefy Audio Mönchengladbach by André Bodewein. The artist Mark Erskine (Erskine Designs) is responsible for the cover artwork, which gives the album a worthy optical frame for the band's anniversary.

With "Towards The Unknown", the German melodic death metal institution Battlesword returns with new material in the twenty-third year of its existence and proves that they are far from being old hat and certainly not willing to think about retirement. On the contrary - on the new material the concentrated load of experience breaks through in the form of an energetic steamroller that threatens to bury everything in its path.
With their distinctive mix of melodic death and Scandinavian old school, the band manages to write songs that have classic potential from the very first riff, seemingly effortlessly even in 2022.
"Towards The Unknown" was recorded and produced by Michael "Freio" Haas in April/May at Big Easy Studio in Hennef. For the mastering, the band turned to a master of the genre this time and so none other than Dan Swanö refined the album. In addition to new material, "Towards The Unknown" contains the songs from the "The 13th Black Crusade" maxi, which has been out of print for many years, as a bonus which als also been remastered for this purpose!

Intense Heavyness!
Wenn sich der musikalische Tausendsassa Rogga Johansson (Furnace, Paganizer) anschickt ein neues Projekt an den Start zu bringen, dann kann man sich darauf verlassen es in irgendeiner Form mit der ureigensten Essenz schwedischen Death Metals zu tun zu haben. Zumindest Instrumental sind die schweren schleppenden Rythmen und eingängige Melodien auch bei Astrophyte das solide Fundament.
Und dennoch ist in diesem Fall etwas anders: Mit Indii Hofvander (Tristitia), die bereits auf dem Furnace Album „Stellarum“ einen Gastauftritt zu einem Johansson Projekt beigesteuert hat, prägt eine eindringliche, fast flehentliche, weibliche Stimme Großteile des Albums - und trägt damit, neben Mike Hubrovcaks Growls, nicht unwesentlich zur bedrückend schweren Gesamtatmosphäre des Albums bei.
„2192“ ist ein Album erdrückendes Album, geprägt von typischen Trademarks des nordischen Death Metals der Neunziger, welches darüberhinaus aber etliche Finessen bereithält. Das Album folgt inhaltlich einem Konzept basierend auf dem Rollenspiel der Mutant Chronicles World, für welches sich Bassist Fredrik Petersson verantwortlich zeigt und welches das dystopische Bild einer dysteren Zukunft zeichnet.

Bosparans Fall sind zwar schon einige Jahre unter anderem Namen und anderen Konstellationen in der Metalszene unterwegs, haben sich jedoch erst 2022 als RPG Metalprojekt neu formatiert. Innovative, atmospheric change ...
With their tenth studio album "Construct", the then spearhead of Swedish melodic death metal Dark Tranqullity are heaviely struggled. The band suffered from writer's block in the run-up and also disagreed for a long time about how the new album should sound at all.
In the end, a quite extraordinary album was created directly in the studio, on which above all many small details, different moods and a sound-based atmosphere were in the foreground. Many die-hard fans, expecting a melodic death metal milestone, were alienated by the more experimental tones of the album and so it quickly fell out of focus among purists.
In retrospect it has to be said: unjustified, because it has an emotional depth that perfectly reflects the mood in which the band found themselves in the run-up to the creation process. So "Construct" is ultimately 100% a Dark Tranquillity album that is worthy of being put in perspective and duly considered again in 2022.

We go on a journey through time to the primordial soup of Swedish melodic death metal. If Gothenburg is the destination, there is no way around Dark Tranquillity. Together with In Flames, the guys spearheaded a whole movement that sparked a revolution in the following years. Both bands changed vocalists at the beginning of their career among themselves and then conquered the metal and music charts of the world.
The first demo recordings presented here, however, do not yet show where the journey will lead. The songs are raw, wild and full of the urge to discover. The songs of the first demos, collected here on "Yesterworlds", represent the short time window in which the band created their very own style.
This collection of demos contains additional liner notes by guitarist Niklas Sundin, as well as the artwork for A Moonclad Reflection 7", for which he was also responsible at the time. A step back in history and two steps forwards...
What lasts a long time becomes one! The history of the melodic death metal flagships Graveworm and Suidakra has always been closely connected. They started out on the same label, toured together and developed deep friendships that have lasted until today.
It happened that during the songwriting for the current Suidakra longplayer "Wolfbite" several songs came up that didn't really fit to Suidakra, but with their raw sound, groove and melodies they brought back memories of the old times at the beginning of the nineties and demanded to be released. So Akki and Zachi (the former Suidakra bassist) knocked on the door of some old companions to complete the time travel experiment and were joined by Graveworm singer Stefano Fiori. They were completed by current Suidakra members Sebastian and Ken to unleash this debut album on mankind. So it's no surprise that "Necrohedron" sounds exactly like this: raw, inspired by the spirit of their early years together, paired with the skills and finesse of today!
Cover artist Kris Verwimp (Suidakra, Marduk, Immortal, Arch Enemy, among others) was also immediately on fire and is responsible for the cover artwork as well as the lyrics. Fot this he used a concept story that had been lying dormant in his drawer for a long time and fitted Dragonbreed like a glove. The band has the claim not only to be a one-off "project", but also to aspire to the stages of this world with their well thought-out concept.

Don't fear the Austrians!
Fearancy was founded in Styria in 2014 and mixed elements of thrash, melodic death, groove and industrial metal on their debut album "Paranoia", which was released in 2016. In the following years, the guys gained a good reputation as a live band with several shows at home and abroad, before they started working on the follow-up album. The result of this work is now available in the form of "Dæmonium", which is much heavier than the quartet's early days.
Even if the origins in the thrashmetal like thunderstorm riffing or the groovy mosh parts can still be heard, the songs on "Dæmonium" can also be unhesitatingly united under the term modern melodic death metal. Friends of bone-dry neckbreakers will definitely get their money's worth and especially live, the new songs should ensure a lot of movement in the pit.
The 10 songs were recorded at the Romes studio in Hartberg, Austria, while the mix and mastering was done by none other than J-F Dagenais (KATAKLYSM), who put the finishing touches on the whole thing at JFD Studios in Texas. Seit über 30 Jahren sind FINAL CRY ein konstanter Bestandteil der deutschen Metal Szene und legen mit dem Bergsteiger Epos “The Ever-Rest” ihren nunmehr sechsten Longplayer vor. Darauf gelingt es der Band einmal mehr sich neu zu erfinden, ohne dabei ihre Wurzeln aus den Augen zu verlieren.
Ihr nach wie vor im Thrash Metal verwurzelter Sound besticht durch gnadenloses Riffing, treibende Drums und viel Gespür für Melodien und Atmosphäre und schlägt dabei eine Brücke zwischen dem klassischen Thrash der 80er und den düsteren skandinavischen Stilen der 90er. Der neue Mann am Mikro gibt dem Sound der Band nicht nur eine neue Note, sondern seine garstigen Screams und Growls passen auch zum tödlich-frostigen Szenario des Albums wie die Faust aufs Auge. Das Gesamtkonzept wird durch ein 20seitigen Storybooklet abgerundet, welches die realen Geschichten erzählt, die jedem einzelnen Song zu Grunde liegen. Für einige Backing Vocals und Chöre, welche die epische Tiefe des Albumthemas unterstützen, konnte man zudem Herbie Langhans (AVANTASIA) und Børd Wäsche (EYE SEE BLACK) gewinnen. “The Ever-Rest” wurde im Soundlodge Studio unter den Fittichen von Jörg Uken aufgenommen und ist zweifellos ein Highlight im Schaffen des Quintetts und dürfte sowohl alte als auch neue Fans der Niedersachsen begeistern. Für ihre langjährigen Anhänger hat die Band als Bonus mit “Words Unspoken” zudem einen ihrer Alltime Klassiker aus dem Jahre 1994 nochmal neu aufgenommen und ins neue Jahrtausend portiert.

When talking about Swedish melodic death metal of the nineties, names like Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates and In Flames quickly come up. With GATES OF ISHTAR, a band is slightly forgotten that musically had no less impact on the genre and is one of the influences of numerous bands that saw the light of day after them.
After the 1996 debut "A Bloodred Path", two absolute milestones of the genre were released with "The Dawn of Flames" and "At Dusk and Forever", which unfortunately remained the last releases of the Swedes.
The first edition was lost at the end of the nineties due to the bankruptcy of the then label Invasion Records. In 2017, a remastered reissue was released, which is now either out of print or traded at high lover and/or import prices. Wenn man über schwedischen Melodic Death Metal der Neunziger spricht, fallen schnell Namen wie Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates und In Flames. Mit GATES OF ISHTAR wird dabei schnell eine Band vergessen, die musikalisch nicht weniger Einfluß auf das Genre hatte und zu den Einflüssen zahlreicher Bands gehört, die nach ihnen das Licht der Welt erblickten.
Nach dem 1996er Debut „A Bloodred Path“ erschienen mit „The Dawn of Flames“ und „At Dusk and Forever“ zwei absolute Meilensteine des Genres, welche leider auch die letzten Veröffentlichung der Schweden blieben.
Die Erstauflage ging Ende der Neunziger durch den Konkurs des damaligen Labels Invasion Records unter im Jahr 2017 erschien eine remasterte Neuauflage, die jedoch mittlerweile erneut entweder vergriffen ist, oder zu hohen Liebhaber und/oder Importpreisen gehandelt wird. Zeit also für ein ReRelease dieser zwei Rohdiamanten zu einer Zeit in der sich der Melodische Death Metal der Neunziger erneut einer steigenden Beleibtheit erfreut!

At In Sanity, which was founded in 2011, sanity and insanity are not only close together, they are virtually on the same line. Das Jahr 2021, inmitten der Corona Pandemie, stellt sich im Nachhinein als ein Jahr für vielversprechende Bandgründungen heraus. Auch Sarlic Bliss haben hier ihren Ursprung. Auch in diesem Fall haben wir es mit langjährigen in der Szene aktiven Musikern zu tun, die offenbar nach einer neuen Betätigung zur Selbstverwirklichung gesucht haben. Mit „Brægn Hæft“ liegt nun das Full Lenght Debut des Quintetts vor, welches es bei nur 6 Songs auf eine stattliche Länge von über 45 Minuten bringt, wobei klar sein dürfte, dass sich die Burschen offenbar die nötige Zeit nehmen um einen Song entfalten zu lassen. Wenig überraschend ist der Sound geprägt von dunklen, aggressiv-melancholischen Klängen, melodisch untermauert durch das Zusammenspiel von Growls und cleanen vocals. Die Band selbst sieht sich irgendwo zwischen Doom-/, Post-Black-/ und Death-Metal beheimatet und spielt in ihren Lyrics bewusst mit altenglische Sprachelemente, um die Atmosphäre der Musik noch authentischer wiederzugeben.
Das vorliegende Debüt ist düster, brachial und ergreifend zu gleich. Sowohl bei den Recordings als auch der Produktion hat die Band selbst Hand angelegt. „Brægn Hæft“ ist nicht zuletzt deshalb ein Album wie aus einem Guß auf welchem sich die Band ohne Kompromisse selbst portraitiert und verwirklicht hat.

Metallic north wind!
For 10 years now Strydegor have been providing a steady musical north wind in the metal scene. They mix gusts of melodic death metal with hymnic-acoustic swirls, peppered with accentuated pinches of biting black metal. The present 11 songs were recorded between february 2018 and august 2020 in the Hell-Sounds Studio in Neu Brenz, refined by Oliver Carell/Blastbeat Productions (Ophis, Fäulnis, Heretoir, among others) and finally mastered by Lasse Lammert in the LSD Studio Lübeck (Alestorm, Gloryhammer) to a stunning neckbreaker. The cover artwork, which was created by Patrick Wittstock from Azrael Design, completes the harmonious overall picture of the almost 50 minute longplayer.

After 24 years of band history and 12 studio albums SUIDAKRA has become a flagship in the Celtic-Metalscene. During this time they toured around the globe, played any number of shows, mastermind Arkadius Antonik even spent a week on behalf of the German Goethe Institute to support regional musical projects in India and SUIDAKRA has been the first metal band ever that performed six shows there. Based on a fantasy world which was created during the artwork/soundtrack collaboration between the painter Kris Verwimp and Antonik on "Realms Of Odoric", the belgian artist explains: "Continuing the “Realms of Odoric” saga, “Cimbric Yarns” harks back to where it all began. Thousands of years before Odoric’s time, there existed an advanced civilisation that perished in a great cosmic cataclysm. “Cimbric Yarns” is an attempt at recreating its mythology, inspired by ancient Celtic texts and megalithic sites from all over the world. It weaves a fine thread between history and fantasy, chronicling the fate of its main characters Cruàc, Arma and Aenea in 10 compelling acoustic songs.”
Needless to say the overall visual concept and the epic artwork of the album was also done by Verwimp.
